We are expecting a new puppy to arrive in August to our home. Bruno will be 3 months.

We are heavily browsing and talk with Vets about food we should use during puppy stage.

We want best quality. Below are suggestions which we are considering after many discussion (NOTE: I never heard for this brand ā€œEssentialā€ seems to be from UK):

- Royal Canin Bulldog Puppy (they say it is best price-quality ratio food) but I think it is the worst one on the list
- Taste of Wild
- Ziwi Peak
- Essential Begining

If any of you used these food or had good experience with some other brand of dry food, please share it with us… Many thanks!!!

The breeder that we bought our new EB puppy from in September ā€˜23 (She’s 10 months old now), feeds their litters Royal Canin. I’ve never been a fan of RC, so after picking her up (8 weeks old), we started slowly transitioning her off of RC to Zignature. Like you , we read many posts from various forums, and decided on Zignature for its quality ingredients without excessive protein ( many posts on excess protein in EB pups- some folks believe excess protein can bring on bow-leggedness in the front legs…..your experience may vary, but our pup definitely has not had any issues with bowed front legs).

we then transitioned from Zignature to Nature’s Logic, adding raw (and cooked liver) as a topper to her meals. That combination has worked for us. You may want to try a raw diet down the road….many folks on this forum feed raw exclusively with great results. Gut health is really important in EB’s ….it can help with skin/ allergies and host of other benefits…we find that a blend of the kibble and raw and cooked liver works best for our two EB’s (we rotate the proteins but we don’t use the chicken blend of any kibble…we have had issues with our EB’s feeding chicken, but again many folks have had zero issues with chicken).
You’ll find a lot of different opinions on this forum, but everyone is is here to help…congrats on the new puppy….EB’s are, in our opinion ,worth the effort to feed and care for!!!!! Most loving dogs we have ever owned…

I personally would not feed RC as it’s a lower quality…lots of fillers. 2 of my dogs eat raw and 2 of them eat Open Farm with ancient grains. Zignature is a good brand and they have a lot of different proteins to choose from. Every dog is different so you might have to do some trial and error before you find what works.

We feed Reesie (who is 3 months) Diamond. That's what the breeder was feeding them so we stuck with it. So far no issues, she really likes

Agree with others…. RC is not a good choice. A few options to consider and try to avoid chicken and beef when feeding kibble… something in the processing just doesn’t seem to agree with bulldogs

Zingnature
Open Farm
Earthborn Holistic

Want to avoid issues? Simply stay away from Royal Canin, Science Hill n Purina. Mostly all grains fit for cows.

Stick to the other brands some members have mentioned.

Thank you all! Unfortunately here in Europe we do not have those brands, but we have Orijen,
Taste of Wild
Canagan

So I think we will start with Orijen Puppy although it is chicken and turkey based with some phish in it…

Can you get Farmina? It is an Italian company apparently sold throughout Europe but one of their manufacturing plants is in Serbia. They have different proteins and it is a good food, unlike as others have said, Purina, Hills or Royal Canin. It is what I feed my dogs now and they do well on it. Good luck!

Yes I can get it. Just revewing it and it looks like quality food. Orijen is probably better rated but I think will try Farmina… Thanks a lot ! I would never find it :)

Most of my previous puppies were all fed Orijen. It’s very high in calories and nutrients. They grow faster than normal so keep an eye out. My 3 i have now are all on raw.

Very rare a puppy has allergies n even towards Chicken cause they just got wean from mom’s milk. It is the best time to introduce chicken to puppies n very important to do rotations of different protein throughout the pupp stage. Like that puppies as they grow won’t have food allergies. Yes it can happen but more rare. I’ve been doing that for decades and totally works.

Rotation is the key.

One thing to be aware of is that Orijen was bought by Mars a couple of years ago. It is sad that these very good companies often go down in quality after a major conglomerate takes them over. They source ingredients from countries with less controls.

Since in UK… look into Oodles, I see it on social media and seems to be a good food. But farmina is a good kibble as well

What kind of Raw do you feed?
I replied to you in a different area on this forum. Have no clue where lol…..

In a nutshell I buy from a farmer here in Canada n you won’t have this raw in US. Others might fill you in what n where they buy. You can also make your own.
