Hi Everyone! I just found this site yesterday and am so glad I did! I used to have an English Bulldog, but he passed away at 16 years of age. I am wanting to get another soon. I was looking at a rescue, but they would only adopt in their area which was Chicago...about 300 miles too far!
My dog was AKC registered and I have seen ads that say CKC registered. Can anyone tell me the difference? I really don't intend to breed, so I guess it really doesn't make much difference....I just wanted to know.
Right now, I have a Cocker Spaniel. I am self employed, so I can take my dog to work with me every day, so they would never be home alone. Now all I need to do is find my English Bulldog Soulmutt! :D

Hello reallyrob! Welcome to English Bulldog News! I think I help you about CKC. Welcome to your Cocker Spaniel, too. Would love to see pics of her/him!

CKC is another registery that provides papers, just like AKC. But yes, they do not have all of the requirements that AKC does, and many breeders who get kicked out of AKC then go to CKC.

Here is a yahoo answer that I found interesting: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080212154536AAOa6yq

Personally, I would never buy a CKC regestered dog. I do full investigation if I even buy an AKC dog. A CKC dog will probably be less expensive, but then you have more of a chance of supporting a puppy mill.

Have you read our puppy buying tips? It is just a guide to buying a new English Bulldog puppy and what to watch out for.... there are so many SCAMS out there. Be careful. Hope you find a wonderful soulmutt!!! :) Here is the puppy buying tips: http://www.englishbulldognews.com/Puppy_Buying_Tips_from_English.html

Again, welcome, if you have any more questions, please ask!

Not all ckc regestered dogs are bad though, but I would stick to akc to be safe.

Welcome to the site, cannot wait to see your new bully!! :)

Well, I said that I wanted to get another English Bullie and I got a 12 week old female! It started out to be a foster for this little girl and it just became final I am her new owner. Someone brought an English Bulldog to the vet that was ready to have a litter. They brought their folder with all of their dogs vet health info and CKC registration papers for the litter., and they left her there. The vet did the C section, and called and told the owner how much she owed, and she never came to pick her or the puppies up. there was 2 males and 1 female in addition to the 4 year old mother. The vet said he sent her numerous letters and called. Their number was disconnected. He sent a final one giving her 10 days to make payment or even arrangements...no response....then he sends another registered letter giving 10 days to contact them or the property would be disposed of...no response. I ended up getting this little girl, just for the price of her shots that she received on Saturday when I picked her up! The vet said it wasn't about the money....he said he just wanted to find them a home that would be the best home for them! How could someone leave their dog and the litter and never go back??? Well, this little girl is delightful! I named her Alberta (Bertie). My Cocker Spaniel Dexter loves her! They play all day long!!!!!! I will post some pictures when I figure out how to post them here.

Awww she is so cute! How weird about the circumstances?!!! I hope the other two are in good hands as well. Maybe you could have the vet lead them here too?

There is a photo tutorial in the photo of the month contest board. Hope it helps!

Oh my goodness she is beautiful!!!! Welcome and congrats to you!!!! Seems like it was meant to be and that is awesome. Very odd about the owner but with the economy as it is I guess they figured leaving them with a vet would be the best thing? Cannot imagine at all but there are always extreme circumstances I suppose. Hope the brothers find as good a home as she did. ;)

Welcome to the group!! Just adding to the CKC discussion. It really doesnt matter what registry you go with unless you plan to show your dog. CKC dogs are just as good as AKC dogs. In fact there are plenty of AKC puppy mills and AKC bad breeders/bad dog owners out there as well. I dont think it is fair and accurate to post negative things about a certain registry. There is good and bad people with any and every registry out there. I would be more careful buying a dog or puppy that claims to be purebred but with no papers. Picking a registry is a personal preference. Just do your research, ask the breeder a lot of questions and if possible go to their home to check living conditions and check out the parents. Doing your homework is the most important thing you can do to insure you get a good quality puppy/dog. Also ask for references if they have any and never buy a puppy/dog if they breeder does not let come by their home and watch out for scams.
